A mixed-race British mom gave birth to twins recently - one of each. Not a boy and a girl. Two girls - one black, the other white. The odds of such a birth are about a million to one, experts said. It was a shock when I realized that my twins were two different colors,” Kylie Hodgson, 19, told London’s Daily Mail. “But it doesn’t matter to us - they are just our two gorgeous little girls.”
When Kylie Hodgson gave birth to twin daughters by caesarean section, both her and partner Remi Horder were relieved that both had arrived safely.

As the midwife handed over both girls for Kylie to hold she noticed a difference in their colour. Remee, who weighed 5lb 15oz, was blonde and fair skinned. Her sister Kian, born a minute later weighing 6lb, was much darker.

‘It was a shock when I realised that my twins were two different colours,’ said 19 year-old Kylie. ‘But it doesn’t matter to us - they are just our two gorgeous little girls.’

Both Kylie and partner Remi Horder, are mixed race and though it may be no surprise to many mixed-race families to have children of different shades, it is a much rarer occurrence in twins.

According to the Multiple Births Foundation, baby Kian must have inherited the black genes from both sides of the family, whilst Remee inherited the white ones. The odds against of a mixed race couple having twins of dramatically different colours are apparently a million to one.

The twins were born by caesarean in April last year because one of the girls was lying in an awkward position in the womb.

‘I didn’t see them at first,’ added their mother. ‘They were both whisked away to be checked over and then the midwife came back and placed them both in my arms.’ ‘I noticed that both of them had blue eyes,’ said Kylie, ‘but whilst Remee was blonde, Kian’s hair was black and she had darker skin. It seemed strange, but I was feeling so ill that I didn’t really take it in at that stage.’

The next day she mentioned the colour difference to her mother, who told her that Remee’s skin would darken as she grew older. But as the weeks passed, Remee became lighter still while Kian went darker. And while Remee’s eyes stayed blue, Kian’s turned brown.

‘There are some similarities between them,’ said Kylie. ‘They both love apples and grapes, and their favourite television programme is Teletubbies. If they haven’t seen each other for a few hours, they are so pleased to see each other and will hold out their arms, wanting to hug each other. And their smiles just light up their faces. I’ll explain it all to them when they get older about why they look so different.’

Some may argue that Remee and Kian are black and white but to those who know better they are just mixed-race twins.

  1. Fabi Says:

I wonder how many different guys did the mom sleep with at same time. Very possible for gang bang.

  2. Marie-Roberte Says:

    Elles sont jumelles

  3. Toni Says:

For goodness sake, Fabi, they are twins! Gang Banging, lol, where on earth did you pull that from? One egg, one spern, two babies, not rocket science. Your uneducated comment is hurtful to the parents and to the very beautiful children.

  4. Matt Says:

They are not identical twins. Therefore, it is possible that the sperm that fertilized each of the eggs, is from different males. The fact that they are called “partners” leads me to believe that they aren’t married which would make it more likely that she would have sex with other men.

However, both parents are mixed race so I guess it would be technically more likely that this would happen, although a rare occurence.

  5. wow.. Says:

Omg fuckkk yah i wonder how many that girl had sex. lmao

  6. Yours Truly Cindy Says:

HOLY F***. Some one has been realllly busy with threesomes!!!

  7. Kevita wickware Says:

that is so damn rude, this is just one of those rare occurances and you guys are just being a$$e$

  8. Me Says:

Mixed race people carry both black & white genes, goes without saying. Basic biology, that.

Please my people, stop flaunting your ignorance in an effort to be cool. That’s the exact reason why our black children perform badly in school.

  9. Jenni Says:

Twinning can occur either because one fertilized egg splits into two - identical twins, or because two eggs are accidentally released at the same time. Technically, it is possible for a different man to be one of the girls’ fathers. Although mom would’ve had to have slept with both guys within hours of eachother.

Let’s put it this way, if I was their dad, I’d go with the percentages and ask for a DNA test to be on the safe side - although he already might have gotten it done.

  10. Starr Says:

Yea…you guys are real adult in your responses. You obviously know NOTHING about science. GROW UP!

  11. ashley Says:

i think the childern are beautiful however it happened

  12. "C" Says:

I agree with ashley they are 2 very buetiful children i wish them good health in my prayers.

  13. Gali Says:

and what is the news here :S? , i dont see nothing extrange.

  14. SomeoneinUSA Says:

Sorry to burst the family’s bubble, but the light baby looks albino… I have albino genes, and just by looking at her one can see that she carries the albino genes. Has nothing to do w/ recessive genetic heritage.

  15. BJ Australia Says:

For all those idots who keep saying the mum must have slept around ummmm….the mother is quite dark skinned MORONS!!! Also as at the tome of the birth they were under 18 they couldn’t be married yet! Ignoramus twits!!!!!

  16. HiyaMiya Says:

    so kute!

  17. omd.. Says:

some people really made some really stupid comments go and check your biology books if unsure. Your really need to shut your mouths!

  18. Biologyteacher Says:

Read up people-DNA tests have proved that both children have the same mother AND father-the odds of this happening are very rare-but it did!

The “white” child is NOT albino, you are either albino or not-you aren’t part albino-I have blonde hair and fair skin and I’m not an albino-she’s just a blonde haired, blue eyed baby. If she were albino she would not have blue eyes-albinoism is the ABSENCE of pigment…she would have WHITE hair (not blonde) and RED eyes (not blue).

This truly is an amazing anomoly, and I use the story to help teach my biology students when we cover genetics.

  19. Destiny J Says:

Wow that is so awesome. I never seen anything like it im and im only 13 years old. That is so cute. Wish you all the best

  20. Kisha.Renee Says:

All i can say is……..wow! Look what type of miracles God is bringing down!

  21. mommy2many Says:

Wow thank you Biologyteacher! You just saved me the trouble!
“DNA tests have proved that both children have the same mother AND father” “you are either albino or not” “you aren’t part albino albinoism is the ABSENCE of pigment…she would have WHITE hair (not blonde) and RED eyes (not blue). ” yea these are facts people! read a book!

These girls are gorgeous!!!! I myself have 3 (and 1 on the way) mixed children and I think its beautiful how different they can look. Skin tones rage alot in mine! Its very possible to have 2 children that look very different and are from the same mother and father. But this is amazing in twins and beautiful at the same time! god bless the family they are beautiful!

  22. chianti Says:

it doesnt matter how they came about and its not the first set of kids ive seen like this but they are beautiful and very unique the hataz above?..dont worry bout them cuz i think they are ttttoooo cute

  23. kiki41513 Says:

Those kids are so cute and unique. And to the people who said black kids act up in school yall dnt kno wat yall talkin bout, cuz yall is ignorant and fuck you. And for all the people that talked bout the mama saying that she slept around, get yo facts straight, its just a rare accurence, FUCKERS!

  24. Warsaw P. Jenkings III Says:

Now first i want to send out all my blessings to the two beautiful twins. Okay im a college professer at the University of San Fransisco in the very abundant study of biological science and this a very rare occurence but very possible. The Caucasian genes from both parents entered the lighter infant and vice versa with the darker infant. So to all of the opulent people commentating with your incorrigible sentences can go and look at the facts. Oh yeah and to the commenter “me” that was a very stereotypical comment about our own race. My African-American students are very well behaved!

  25. L-SHAWTY...Xx Says:

Some of you people that just swear over little things man! its sooo annoying my gosh and your suppose to believe that your all grown up…Ohhh plllease. ANYWAYS moving on, oh and to the person that was getting rude to the other person about black kids are bad in school…that aint being ignorant its being honest AND it makes a lot of sense
(i CAN say this because i am 15rs old and black Caribbean and i am still in school) some kids now in society can chat sooo much S*** SERIOUSLY and instead they pick up a book and read it there walking up and down street for what ever reason with no GCSE’s.

As i was saying in my opinion if i was to see these two girls (which are SO CUTE by the way) i would have to think that the lightest one would be an albino…but as im only 15 i still have much to learn and by the way albinos DO NOT HAVE RED EYES and they can have blondish hair but its a lot lighter than the orignal (kinda blondish white) and they can have blue eyes too. No1 can just look at that child and say “oh shes white” because colour isnt always the issue…many kids in my family are MUCH lighter then their parents (with green and blue eyes) and both the parents are dark skinned/black and so are they (their kids are not albino, just light skinned). NUFF SAID!!

  26. L-SHAWTY...Xx Says:

Just to add…PLEASE people its a good idea to read up about genetics from a good biology book first before making random comments about this issue.
Most biology books will clearly explain how this happens…ITS NOT LIKE MIXING PAINT….its your genes.
    Thank you for reading =]

  27. Shaunie Says:

Look, i agree with L-Shawty…Guys especially Mr Fabi, its ignorance why someone would make a comment like that…its like in the 16th century when some white people said that some people are black because of sin. Its a “dunce” thing to say. The twins are beautiful and it just shows how dynamic life can be.

  28. Michael Jackson Says:

    look at dads face….

    He wants a DNA test

  29. Robyn Says:

@ Lshawty - Albinos do have red eyes and the lightest of hair colouring. Go back and read your biology book. If she were an albino child, she probably would also have “spots” of colour - those that you typically see on black albinos.

  30. Nicole Says:

Hi all. I’m a twin. My parents are both white with no mixed genes but we have different skin pigmentation. I’m white (very pale and burn easily) and my twin has dark olive skin. We’re different sizes, hair colour, eye colour and personalities. We have the same father and mother. It is so nasty to say crude comments because you’re not educated enough to think before you write something. The parents are obviously pleased to have children that are both healthy and gorgeous and that should be all that matters. Just because a couple are called partners doesn’t mean they sleep around, or have threesomes. You really need to grow up and think before you write. I don’t know about Albino’s but it doesn’t really matter. The children obviously know they are related so see it through their eyes. They love each other and don’t notice the difference between their colours. Only ignorant, biased adults have that problem.

  31. special Says:

Its simple science for those of you who dont understand!! Even if the mom did sleep with another man (she didnt) She is dark…. that would be the dominant trait, no matter how white the “other man” was. These are faternal twins… one got the dark traits and the other got the lighter ones. They even look alike!! These girls are adorable!!!

  32. eve Says:

my mum is white with blond hair and blue eyes my dad is half indonesian and is dark olive skinned with black hair and brown eyes.
guess what i’m very fair skinned , blond and blue eyed like my mother, people can be so rude when they ask if he’s really my father and yes DNA testing has proven i’m his daughter, my sister is darker skinned with black hair and hazel eyes, and my brothers both take after our father.
genetics is just pot luck, stop being so crude saying these twins mother had a gang bang, grow up.
why the DNA testing well when they divorced the need to establish child support payments in my country requires parternity testing even when both are sure that all children are biologically the ex husbands.

  33. Lexy216 Says:

You are talking about people behaving in an ignorant manor, and here you are one of the MOST ignorant things ever! Black children do not perform badly in school! I am 14 yeard old, and I as well as my other BLACk friends have ALWAYS done well in school! So before you go trying to correct other peple, make sure that you dont say something stupid as well! People like you, just disgust me! You make me sick! And I hope that after reading this you will accept that you dont know that African American race that well, and go learn about it! STUPID!

  34. shardi Says:

Well actually they are most likely identical. Its very possible that they are identical considering that alot of female-female twins are identical. Just because they are different colors doesn’t mean they aren’t identical twins along with the fact that just because they don’t appear to both be half black-half white, they are both mixed along with their parents.

  35. Dudu Stinks Says:

This is the most beautiful blessing anyone could hope for. science is funny, sometimes it works like magic. This biracial mom and dad have always had to walk the line between black acceptance and white acceptance. How ironic they produce two beautiful girls who stand on either side of the line.

Imagine how much this family will learn and grow racially and culturally.

    Good stuff. Great stuff.

  36. Kylie Says:

It’s possible for a mother to become pregnant with two totally different babies. Women who bleed throughout their pregnancy are more than likely extremely fertile, and if they had sex, it is possible to fall pregnant to a second child while the other is still unborn. There have been cases where women get pregnant at six months into their term with another child. They give birth to the older baby, and six months later, the second is born. That’s definitely not the case, and I wish them both the greatest of luck. It truly is a miracle. Maybe the beginning to the end of racism? Maybe now people will realise that white and black are of one blood!

  37. Yes, he’s biracial « Adoption in Black and White Says:

[…] parents but only “look” like one parent. A great example of the way genes work is the case of the twins born to a mixed race […]
